Regeneration Project, Sainsburys & Travelodge, Redhill
CHQ were delighted to see the completion of the Redhill town centre regeneration project in October last year. This mixed-use joint venture for Sainsbury’s and Aviva Investors provides 80,000 sq ft of retail floor space for Sainsbury’s, a new 70 bed Travelodge hotel and ‘The Gym Group’ fitness centre.
The scheme also includes a new pedestrian access to the Harlequin Theatre and Redhill Library, along with significant improvements to the pedestrianised areas of London Road.
The existing town centre car park below Warwick Quadrant has been enhanced and parking numbers for the town significantly increased with two floors of dedicated Sainsbury’s parking above the store. Overall 900 spaces have been provided for the town.
The modern Sainsbury’s store is three times the size of the previous one and provides improved food and non-food ranges along with a café and concession spaces including Argos and Explore and Learn. The store has an open airy feel and the large windows overlooking Memorial Park allow natural light to flood into the store.
Feedback from Sainsbury’s customers has been fantastic.
The Redhill public area improvement works include high-quality paving, which is consistent with the paving in the rest of the town centre and provides an integrated link to the existing pedestrianised areas.
A bonded gravel centre piece is set into the paving along the central section of London Road to provide an attractive, textured walkway.
In addition to this, five new trees, contained in circular planters with attached seating, have been installed along the centre of London Road, to deliver a more attractive and pleasant town centre environment.
